Walking in Your Inheritance
Now that you are a Christian, did you know that you have an amazing inheritance? The Bible says you are a Priest unto God (1 Pet 2:9) and the Priest had a very special inheritance, completely different from all of the other people’s inheritance. Out from within your Inheritance flows things like a great marriage, self confidence, wealth, prosperity, victory, joy, faith and an all over great and abundant life.
Laying Hold of Your Inheritance
Before I explain about your inheritance, let me first plant this scripture into your mind. It says, “I commend you to God and to the word of His grace, (unmerited favor) which is able to build you up and give you an inheritance” (Acts 20:32). Right living won’t do it, going to church won’t do it, nor any of the other things we like to focus on. Only the “word of grace” has the power, according to the Bible, to give us our inheritance. All of my sermons and all of my articles have the Word of Grace at the heart of them, because I want to bring you into your inheritance.
The Jewish Priesthood
The Patriarch Jacob had twelve sons, also known as, the twelve tribes of Israel. When Joshua led them into Canaan, the land was divided among the twelve tribes and this was to be their inheritance. However the tribe of Levi, who were the priests, did not receive a portion of land like all of the other tribes. Instead, God told them he would be their inheritance.
Now remember what Peter said in the New Testament, “you (the Christian) are a royal priesthood, a holy nation.” Then Paul said in Romans 8:17 that we are “heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ.” Notice he did not say God inherited us, He said we inherited God. The Old Testament priesthood was a shadow of what God would do in the New Testament through Christ. Just like the Old Testament Priest, we Christians have inherited God!
That Inheritance is manifested in the following three ways:
#1- God is with Us
Do you ever feel like the Lord has left you? Well I have good news; He has not left you. In Matthew 28:20, Jesus said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you, even to the end of the age.” I can remember hearing sermons on, “Lord take not thy Holy Spirit from me.” It sounded good, but one day I realized that that was David in the Old Testament speaking. But Jesus said in the New Testament, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” And again in John 14:16 He said, “The Holy Spirit will abide with you forever.” Learn to live by what God has said in His word, instead of living by your feelings, because you won’t always feel Gods presence. But He promised that He will NEVER LEAVE YOU! Even if you go back to the world, He will go with you. He won’t enjoy it, but He will go. And because He goes with you, you won’t enjoy it for very long either.
#2 -God is on Your Side
“If God be for us, who can be against us?” (Rom 8:31). It doesn’t matter what comes at you, God will raise up a standard against it. Remember, we live by faith, not by sight. and by faith we have access into this grace whereby we stand, Child of God just stay in faith because you can’t lose if God is on your side, how can you lose? Jesus never said we wouldn’t have problems, we all have problems, but God’s grace is sufficient for us. That is what God told Paul when he was being attack by Satan. In other words, the Lord was saying, Paul, Satan may be on the attack, but since I am for you, he can’t win, my grace working through faith will triumph.
#3- God is in Us
“Do you not know that you are the Temple of God and the Spirit of God dwells in you?” (1 Cor. 3:16). And then, 1 John 4:4 says, “Greater is He that is in you, than he that is in the world.” The same Spirit that raised the dead body of Jesus back to life lives in us. Renew your mind to the word of God and let boldness rise up on the inside of you. There’s a power lying dormant in most believers that has the capacity to change them from a lamb to a lion. For God did not give us a spirit of fear (timidity), but of power and of love and of a sound mind. Learn to be “God inside minded.” Practice His presence everyday, and it won’t be long before you are walking in the fullness of your inheritance.
