Jacob sought God and he met God face to face. Jacob had 12 sons. When Jacob met God face to face, God changed his name to Israel. Jacob’s 12 sons became known as the nation of Israel. Individually they became 12 different tribes, but they became known as the nation of Israel. They all became slaves in Egypt. God raises up Moses to get them out. The book of Exodus is about their deliverance from Egypt. Also Exodus shows a picture of our deliverance from the kingdom of darkness into the Kingdom of God’s dear Son. When we see what happens there it explains what is going on with us. We know for a fact that God said, everything in the Old Testament was given as an example so that we could learn from it.
In Exodus 8:20, “And the Lord said to Moses, Rise early in the morning and stand before Pharaoh as he comes out to the water; Then say to him, Thus says the Lord; Let My people go, that they may serve Me.” The word serve there is the Hebrew word abad and it is translated sometimes throughout the Bible as worship. God is saying I want my people to come out of Egypt so they can worship me. Jesus put it another way, Jesus said God is looking for those who will worship Him in spirit and in truth.
Whether we become a worshiper or not is an act of our will. He’s not going to make you a worshiper, He wants you to worship Him out of your heart because you love Him. When you worship someone you are humbling yourself unto them and exalting them above yourself. The fallen man is all about self. When Adam sinned it was all about self-preservation. What about me and mine? But when we become worshipers we humble ourselves under the hand of God and we exalt Him. He’s calling these people out to worship.
When I first got born again I just worshiped Him. But after awhile I began thinking, why does God want us to worship Him so much? I know He is not on an ego trip to where He has to have man worship Him and if we don’t worship Him he is not complete, that is just non-sense. God wants a transformed life and the only thing that will produce a transformed life is when we learn to worship. That’s why Paul said, as we behold Him or as we see Him or look at Him we are changed into that image from glory to glory. As we behold Him. David said, enter His gates with thanksgiving and into His courts with praise. It’s the only way in the word of God that you can come before Him. We come before God with worship, adoration, thanksgiving, praise and we enter a face to face encounter with the Spirit of the Living God. He’s in the Holy of Holies. The Holy of Holies is in you. God is living in you. But you still have to exalt Him above you.
In Exodus 8:25-26 it says, then Pharaoh called for Moses and Aaron and said, Go sacrifice to your God in the land. And Moses said, It is not right to do so, for we would be sacrificing the abomination of the Egyptians to the Lord our God. The devil doesn’t mind you worshiping if it doesn’t require change. You see Pharaoh was going to let them worship but he didn’t want anything to change. Many people think they are worshiping God just because they go listen to a sermon, but yet have no change. Where are you going this morning? Well, I am going to worship the Lord. Well, are you? When we worship God there is a change that takes place.
