1 Peter 1:13 (NASB) therefore prepare your minds for action. The King James Bible says gird up the loins of your mind. Those words gird up loins there if you study it, that term was used in the orient. They wore long robes and when they were ready to move quickly, go into battle or if they were going to do anything that required some action, they would take those loose ends of those robes and tuck them up into their belts. What Peter is saying, is take all of the loose ends of your mind, all of those thoughts that are out there dangling around that are contrary about the grace (favor) of God coming upon you and tuck those thoughts in, get them under control, and get our minds ready for action.
You need to get your thinking right and understand the word of God and the power of God that is available to heal, to deliver, and to set you free. Because if your thinking is wrong you are going to miss it.
Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God. It says by the word of God, but if you will actually study it out, it’s talking about the word of Christ. In other words what He did, His finished work. How did you get born again? You heard the word of God. You heard the word that Jesus Christ died for you, Jesus conquered sin, and Jesus rose from the dead and if you would hear, believe and receive you would be born again. That’s what happened. It started that way and it continues that way when you hear the word of God.
The church world has turned the gospel into a message of Psychology. Let’s talk about your problems, I know you are suffering in this world and God will get you through, God loves you and we love you and we are so sorry for you. Folks come on, this thing is bigger than that! You are now a new creation. God Almighty has spoken from the throne and He has moved through the power of His Son and you don’t have to be tormented by thoughts of your past.
Do you remember when Jesus said, when I return will I find faith on the earth? A lot of Christians have a pride problem. I remember reading over in Proverbs 13:10 that only by pride comes contentions. The word contention means arguments. Only by pride comes arguments. If you come down and we lay hands on you, you will be healed, then you say yeah but. Only by pride comes arguments.
Anytime, you hear the word of grace get your mind set. Say I am getting it, I’m laying hold of it, God has promised it, it is mine, and it is going to happen just like God says it is. After you do that, you will have to gird up your mind again, because the word of God says Satan comes immediately to steal the word that was sown in your heart. You are always going to have to deal with the mind, that’s where the battle is.
