A Lesson on Grace
Grace is a gift, Divinely imparted, that none of us deserve and none of us can earn. Grace is, God’s love, freely offered to us, and is the power to overcome trials. It is God showing His love to you, even though you don’t deserve it. God’s grace is so much more than just salvation alone; it’s in Gods whole being. It is unmerited favor, unrelated to any deed we might do. Grace is the power of God to change us from the inside out. It is, actually, the activity and movement of the Divine Presence in our lives and ,often, it is moving in ways that we don’t notice. Grace is given to us in bigger measure than we can ever imagine, because we are always weighing and measuring whether we deserve it, whether we are worthy, but God’s love is unlimited and unconditional.
Love and Grace
You either have friends who show you grace and love or you have ‘big brothers’ (as in the prodigal son story) who want you to suffer. This is how much God loved the world: He gave his Son, His one and only Son. For, everything we know about God’s Word is summed up in a single sentence: “Love others as you love yourself.” And all of this love has nothing to do with merit or our works. Wesley emphasized “Free Grace” saying, “The grace or love of God, from whence cometh our salvation, is FREE IN ALL, and FREE FOR ALL.”
Reigning in Life
“For, if by the one man’s (Adam) offense, death reigned through the one, much more those who receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness, will reign in life through the One, Jesus Christ,” (The Bible). What a statement! God intends for us to “reign in life,” not to be rained on. And notice, He said it all comes through the abundance of grace and the gift of righteousness. Both grace and righteousness are a gift. That means you can’t earn it and you will never deserve it. It’s not like Santa Claus, checking to see who’s naught and nice before he gives out his gifts. God freely gives grace and righteousness through Jesus Christ.
Let me give you another Bible quote, “the law (ten commandments) came by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ.” The law is all about your performance, it kind of worked like Santa Claus but the free gift came, not by your good performance but Jesus’ performance.
You may not be aware of it but, when you learn how to access the grace of God, a wonderful life lies ahead. You see, there’s one more verse that says, “my people are destroyed for a lack of knowledge.” So keep following me on squidoo, facebook, twitter and my blog, as I continue to talk about God’s amazing grace.
Why Not Keep a Journal of What the Lord Does in Your Life?
God told the nation of Israel to build a memorial, when He did something special, so they would remember. I wish, when I was young in the Lord, someone had encouraged me to write down everything the Lord said, but they didn’t, hopefully you will be wiser. Why not keep a journal of every time the grace of God shows up in your life? Everything He does for us is a manifestation of grace, no matter how small you may think it is. I just remembered a story my wife told, about when she was single and broke. She needed to do laundry but didn’t have any detergent, so she just ask the lord to supply it. That afternoon, she went to her mail box, and the postman had left her a small box of detergent. That’s the grace of God.
