God so loved us that He paid the price for everything in our lives and I don’t care what it is. Now your identity is in Him and not in you. The first thing Jesus said if any man comes after me, let him first deny himself. Our old man died and is gone. 2 Corinthians 5:17-18 tells us, Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new. Now all things are of God.
Romans 8:1, There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do no walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit. Notice the part that says who do not walk according to the flesh, in your Bible it has a reference number by it and if you will look in the original Greek that wording is not there, that was added. But even if it was in there, put it in context in the entire 7th chapter of Romans, Paul is talking about what it was like to be a Jew living under the law of Moses. He said what in the world would set me free from that, he goes on and says thank God, that God did it through Jesus Christ, then in the transition verse in Romans 8:1, he says there is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus. Anytime you see the word therefore in the Bible see what it is therefore because it is referring you back to something before that. Therefore because of what he said in chapter 7, he said God set him free, therefore now there is no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus. There was a lot of condemnation under the law because the law was all about his performance and grace is all about Jesus performance.
I get up in the morning knowing that I am born of God and a son of God. I know that I am a new creation. I know that I have good roots because He recreated me and made me a good tree. I know when I go out during the day that I am going to bring forth good fruit. I just know it. I know what He did and I know my identity. I know that I am the righteousness of God in Christ. Did you know righteousness means to be able to stand in the presence of God knowing you are perfect? God has done the work, Jesus hung on the cross and he said it is finished. Folks Christianity is a done deal.
Romans 5:20-21, More over the law entered that the offense might abound for where sin abounded grace abounded much more. The offense is sin. It’s saying God gave the 10 Commandments (the law) so that sin would abound. Why in the world are we preaching about the 10 Commandments if it causes sin to abound? God said the law entered that the offense might abound but where sin abounded grace abounded much more. The law causes sin to abound. Paul said over in Romans 7 that he didn’t even know sin if it wasn’t for the law. Let me give you an example: you have some boys walking down the street and they pass a glass building, they just walk on by. But they go a little further down and there is another glass building and there is a sign saying don’t throw rocks. Guess what these little boys are going to do now? Throw the rocks. There was no sin until the law was given.
The Bible tells us, that Christ was the end of the law to everyone that believes. The grace of God through the blood of Jesus is the only thing that brings you up to God’s standard. God has done the work.
