The world is inundated with religion. You can’t help but wonder how they all got started and which one is right. I can’t possibly cover all the religions in the world in this small article, but I think it would help everyone to understand that every religion has its foundation in mankind trying to be right, or righteous, with God. For example: Judaism says for man to be right with God he must keep all of the Laws of Moses. Islam (which means submit), on the other hand, says a man must submit to Shari Law. If you look at all of the religions in the world they have a standard whereby man must perform in a manner that would make him right, or righteous, with God. Even much of Christianity today is all about behavior modification. The biggest problem is that no man can maintain all of the requirements that religion demands, therefore, how could man ever become righteous with God? When we try to approach God based on our performance the Bible calls that self-righteousness and declares that it is a stench in the nostrils of God. The Bible also teaches us that only Jesus Christ fulfilled all the requirements of the Law of Moses, and therefore, he was declared righteous, and when we accept Him, by faith, God imparts His righteousness into us.

All religions are trying to be right with God. In the Bible, in 2 Cor. 5:21, it says that God made Jesus sin for us so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him. In other words, when we accept Jesus Christ He became what we were and we became what He was. Here is something that might help you; watch for the word ism, Webster defines it as a system, like communism, socialism, and capitalism.  In religion you have Judaism, Catholicism, Hinduism, Mohammedism; these are all systems trying to reach God. The Muslims have gone so far as to do away with the ism in an attempt to hide the truth. But if you study Islam you will find that is a system for reaching God. Christianity, however, is not an ism or a system, it is an experience, and it is a relationship with a person who rose from the dead. When we accept Christ the actual Spirit that raised His dead body from the grave will enter into your body and recreate you. That is why Jesus said, “you must be born again.” When you except Jesus Christ as Gods substitute for your sins then God can rightly justify you and declare you righteous; not based on your works but on His. The world is filled with religions all trying to reach God, but Christianity is the only means in the universe in which God is reaching out to man.
