In Luke 4:18-19 Jesus stood up and this is the first message that He had ever delivered. He says, “The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, because He has anointed Me to preach the gospel to the poor, He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted. To Proclaim liberty to the captives And recovery of sight to the blind, To set at liberty those who are oppressed; To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord.” This is what Isaiah prophesied, when the Messiah comes this is what He is going to do is proclaim the year of Jubilee.
Jesus stands up, and says The Spirit of the Lord is upon me for this purpose, to proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord (or Jubilee). That’s why the Spirit of the Lord was upon Him.
The year of Jubilee was both civil and spiritual. Jesus is talking about the spiritual side of it. Adam sold us into slavery and Satan was our master. Therefore, Satan ruled over us and we were slaves. Jesus came to set us free and to proclaim the year of Jubilee. That now the oppressed are free, now the oppressed are delivered, and now those who couldn’t see can now see and understand.
We are no longer a slave to the enemy, you have been made the righteousness of God in Christ. Satan has no authority, no power, and no jurisdiction over the righteousness of God. And we are now the righteousness of God in Christ. We are not trying to be righteous, we already are. The word of God says, we were created in pure holiness and true righteousness. It also says, that those who have received the grace of God and the gift of righteousness will reign in life through Christ Jesus. We have gone from slaves to masters that is what Jubilee has done, it has proclaimed liberty.
Colossians 1:13 says “He has delivered us out of the power of darkness and translated us into the kingdom of His dear Son.” When this becomes a revelation to you then poor devil, he doesn’t have a chance. Jesus came to proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord (Jubilee) and He has done it. He has set the captives free, He has released you, He has re-created you, He’s made you sons and daughters of God and He has empowered you with the Spirit of God and the word of God.
James 1:25 says, “But he who looks into the perfect law of liberty and continues in it and is not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this one will be blessed in what he does.” Now the law of liberty that is what we have been talking about, He came to proclaim liberty. Here we see that it’s a spiritual law. Now the law of Moses was a good law but, it wasn’t perfect because no one could live up to it.
We have a new law it’s called the law of liberty (the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus), it has set us free from the law of sin and death (the law of Moses). We have been delivered from a performance based religion. We have been delivered into the kingdom of God’s dear Son and we have been made righteous. We are not trying to be free, we are free!
Continue in this work he said. There is a work, but it’s not the work of the flesh, it’s the work of the Spirit. It’s the Spirit of God that lives in us and the Spirit of God walks with us and talks to us. He lives in us and we live in Him and according to 1 Corinthians 6:17 our spirit’s became one spirit with His.
