How many of you know there is no peace on earth right now? Yet in Luke 2:13-14 we see an angel of the Lord appearing to some shepherds and saying, “Glory to God in the highest, And on earth peace, goodwill toward men!” Then we see in Luke 12, Jesus saying, “Do you suppose I came to bring peace on earth? I tell you not at all but rather division.” There’s also another verse in the Bible where Jesus tells us, “Your enemies will… be those of your own household.” In other words, He’s saying, don’t think that I’ve come to bring peace but I came to bring division. So do we have a contradiction in the Word of God here? I mean, did the angel miss it or did Jesus miss it? No! In one translation it reads, “peace on earth to men whom God’s favor rests.” What the angel is actually referring to is the peace that is on the inside of every born-again child of God; it’s part of the fruit of the Spirit that we see over in Galatians 5:22-23.
So many Christians seem to think that they don’t have peace. The problem isn’t that we don’t have peace; the problem is that most Christians simply don’t know how to access it. The key to accessing it is found over in Romans 5:1, “Therefore having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.” The key is that we access the peace of God by faith. By faith we’ve been justified and by faith we have peace with God. Isaiah 12:3 says, “with joy you draw water out of the wells of salvation.” Peace is part of our salvation and everything that we need is wrapped up in our salvation. We have a Savior, God sent us salvation, and with joy we can draw everything we need from the wells of salvation. Folks, if it isn’t joy then it isn’t faith because faith always has a positive expectation.
Romans 8:6 says, “For to be carnally minded is death but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.” To be spiritually minded is life, it’s the life of God and the peace of God. Being spiritually minded is to be faith minded, not world minded or circumstance minded. Do you remember when Jesus was in the boat with the disciples and when it started to storm the disciples were fearful? The disciples, at that time, were being circumstance minded instead of being spiritually minded. What those guys were missing was the fact that Jesus, who is the Word of God, said, “go to the other side” and no storm hell could conjure up was going to stop that boat from getting to the other side because the Word of God said, “Go”!
God’s Word tells us that we have the peace of God ruling and reigning in our life and that the Word of God is forever settled in heaven, but my question to you is this: is it settled in your heart? Child of God, there are no battles going on up in heaven about what God has said, it’s a done deal! And once it gets settled in you, then it’s going to be “poor devil” because he hasn’t got a chance against the Word of God!
