Free From Condemnation Part 2

Romans 8:5 says those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh but those who live according to the Spirit, set their mind on the things of the Spirit. Then verse 6 says, for to be carnally minded (carnal means fleshly or earthly minded) it’s death, but those who are spiritually minded it is life and peace. The word for mind in verse 6, is the Greek word phroneo. But in Romans 7:23 mind there is the word nous, two Greek words, but in your bible they both come out mind.

The word phroneo in verse 6 means to think. If your thinking in the Greek that is phroneo. In Romans 7:23 the word mind there is nous and it’s your reasoning and your emotions. And what he’s saying, if you will think about spiritual things, it’s going to change your reasoning and your emotions. If your reasoning and your emotions are wrong, it’s because your thinking is wrong.

I believe that it is very possible that everything that we struggle with, whether it’s healing or relationships or whatever it is, I believe that it is very possible that it all originates through condemnation.

Remember Adam when he sinned, he hid himself. Why did he hide himself? Because he felt condemned. The flesh the law of Moses which is a performance based religious mentality, will produce condemnation in your life. You won’t be able to lay your hands on sick people, because you don’t feel worthy enough to do that, you won’t be able to lead anybody to Jesus because you don’t feel worthy of that, you will not be able to cast out a devil because you don’t feel worthy of that, you will question when you go into the presence of God whether God hears you or not, because you don’t feel worthy of that. It’s a bi-product of your performance, it is the bi-product of your flesh, and it’s also called the law of sin and death, because that’s what it produces.

He says, set your thinking on spiritual things. I would love to take a survey, if we had a way of recording everybody’s daily thought life, to see what they think about all day long. Many people think about their lack, they think about how they are going to try to fix their problems, and others think about what the doctor said, we think about a lot of stuff.

Paul says in Romans 8:6, if we are spiritually minded it is life and peace  Everything in life will flow through peace. Everything in life is going to come through the peace of God as we tap in.

It’s easy to get our mind on earthly things, it takes effort to get our mind on spiritual things. Think about spiritual things, then your emotions and stuff will start to change.

There is this neurologist I read about she is a born again Christian, she wrote how our thoughts are like these little trees that spring up and that the more you think on something, the more it branches out. Whatever you are thinking on those branches will grow and grow and connect with others. And what you stop thinking on, those branches will start to wither and die. And she takes it and talks on it in conjunction with the scriptures.

When we get up in the morning and think, dear Lord I’ve got to go to work. We can think that in the morning, or we can think this is the day that the Lord has made and I will rejoice and be glad in it, and wherever I go I’m just going to let the glory of God come alive. It’s our choice what we think. We can’t control our emotions, but we can control what we think and what we think will control our emotions.
