You read it right; Jesus said it’s possible to be blessed more than the Virgin Mary, but do you know how to make it happen, most people don’t? I know it’s hard to image, because man has built statues to the Virgin Mary and turned her into an idol. But regardless of what you might think, the Bible teaches that it’s possible for you and I, as Christians, to be blessed above and beyond the Virgin Mary.
Let me explain: There was a lady who thought that the Virgin Mary must have had a very special place in the Kingdom of God, even above everyone else. She came to Jesus and said, “Blessed is the womb that bore you and the breasts which nursed you!” But Jesus replied, “More than that, blessed are those who hear the word of God and keep it!” (Lu. 11:27-28)
The Greek word, blessed, is “makarios,” which means ” the highest good” and it is something that is bestowed on someone by speaking. Genesis 1:28 says, “God blessed them (Adam and Eve) and said, be fruitful.” Notice, they were blessed because of what God said. Let’s look at another example: in Genesis 14:18-19, Melchizedek blessed Abram and said, “Blessed be Abram of God Most High” and the time would fail us to tell of Jacob, Joseph, and Joshua, and all the others in scripture. Throughout scripture we see people blessing others by speaking over them.
Now look what God said about Christians in Eph. 1:3, “He has (passed tense) blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly realm in Christ Jesus. If He has already blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly realm, why are Christians constantly wanting to be blessed?
The answer is simple, they don’t know that they are already blessed because they don’t feel blessed. That is why the Bible says things like, “My people are destroyed for a lack of knowledge.”
Even though we Christians have already been blessed, above and beyond Mary, it only becomes a reality when we learn to use faith to activate what God has already provided for us through the finished work of Christ.
I spent several years in church, filled with the Holy Spirit, and still living in constant defeat. Simply because I was not being taught the Word of God in a way that caused the blessing of God to manifest in my life.
Jesus said He came “that we might have life and have it in abundance.” The word life is the Greek word, “Zoe” which is the life of God. God never sent His Son to die for you and bring you into the Kingdom of God so that you would live a defeated life. He did it so that you could have life and have it in abundance. He wants you to be blessed above measure, blessed coming in and going out!
