A True Image Of God Part 1

The bible is divided into the Old Testament and the New Testament. The Old Testament is all about God as a creator. The New Testament is all about God as a Father. The Old Testament reveals man’s sin and the problem with it. The New Testament reveals the solution for sin. The Old Testament shows the wrath and judgment of God. The New Testament shows the mercy, grace, and the love of God. The Old Testament shows Israel as servants of God. The New Testament shows sons and daughters of God, which is the church. There is a big difference between the two. You have to learn to rightly divide the word of God. Jesus talked about not to put new cloth on an old garment. He separates the two and you have to learn to rightly divide them to understand what is going on in the Bible.

The Pharisees, were trained in the Old Testament. All they could see was God’s anger, God’s wrath, and God’s judgment and they actually believed that God despised sinners. They taught that there was joy before God when one sinner perished from the earth. That was their mindset.

In the New Testament Jesus comes along and reveals God to a very religious world, as a loving Father and they couldn’t handle that. They believed  God didn’t love people, God hated people and God was mad and God was angry. Nothing could be further from the truth, God created the universe, and then when He got done He said, now for my grand finale I’m going to create a man and I’m going to crown him with glory and honor. You’re His ultimate creation and He loved you so much that He sent His only Son to die in your place and my place, that is a God of love.

There are three parables I want to share, two briefly and then one we are going to look at in depth. Jesus is going to share these parables because of what the Pharisees believed.

Luke 15:1-2 All the tax collectors and the sinners drew near to Jesus to hear Him and the Pharisees and Scribes they complained and said this man receives sinners and eats with them. And these Pharisees are just blown away by it. So Jesus is going to reveal the heart of God and He is going to do it through 3 parables.

The first parable he talks about He reveals God as a Shepherd, that he loves sinners so much He picks up the sheep and puts it on His shoulder. We see God the Son and his love for sinners.

The second parable we see is God the Holy Spirit, we see a woman who has lost a coin and she is searching everywhere, tearing her house apart to find that coin. God the Holy Spirit He searches us out, he will go to any length. If your lost and without Him, He will hunt you out no matter what, that is how much He loves sinners.

How many of you have ever heard of (Sin City) Las Vegas? God found me there. That’s where I was when He saved me. You know people say, well God is not in San Francisco. Well, yes He is! He is there seeking, He’s searching for whoever He can find. He loves sinners. You want to be loved by God that is the first qualification. God loves sinners! A lot of religious people and preachers don’t love sinners. They want to talk about how bad all the sinners are. If it wasn’t for the grace of God there goes you and I. It is only by His love and His grace that we have been delivered. He sought us out and we yielded.
