Did you know that the bible says, you are destroyed for a lack of knowledge? So let’s get the knowledge and let’s stop destruction. It’s not hard, get an understanding of the word of God and stop destruction.
Today I want to paint you a picture of what I think a renewed mind looks like. 2 Corinthians 10:3-5, For though we walk after the flesh we do not war according to the flesh, for the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for the pulling down of strongholds casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God and bring every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ.
Now, a wrong interpretation of this is going to produce condemnation in our lives. And we know from Romans 8:1, that there is therefore now no condemnation in Christ Jesus. So if we are getting under condemnation, we have got to take a look at what we are thinking and what we are doing because something is not right. There should not be any condemnation to a child of God. The word condemnation means condemn, or feel guilty.
Most people think that you have to deal with every thought that comes in to your mind and bring every thought into captivity. I don’t know if you learned this yet, but I promise you if you haven’t you will. You don’t have control over all your thoughts.
But here’s the problem, if you try to deal with every ungodly thought that comes your way, you are going to live in condemnation, because you can’t defeat them all. Here’s an example, you’re driving down the road and you are just praising God, all of a sudden a wrong thought comes to you and your mind is now on the wrong thought. So now, you start trying to cast down that wrong thought. I rebuke this thought in the name of Jesus, I’m not going to think about this, I refuse to think about that in Jesus name, I block that out of my mind, I’m not going to think about that anymore I am going to think about Jesus, now suddenly you are spending more time dealing with that negative thought than you were thinking on Jesus.
It’s because you are trying to cast down every argument that exalts itself above the word of God in your mind, now you are under condemnation and you are feeling rotten. I just can’t control my thoughts, I don’t know what’s wrong with me, I try so hard, I want to control my thoughts, I love Jesus, I would do anything if I could just control my thoughts. What is wrong with me Lord? That’s the way the mind works.
2 Corinthians 10:3-5, has been taught over and over for years, but if you back up and read this in context, what Paul is writing is a letter to the Corinthians. The Corinthians had arguing going on in the church, some of them were saying this Paul is a nobody, he just lives after the flesh, he’s just a fleshly man. Paul writes if you back up and read it, Paul is telling them yes I do walk after the flesh, but the weapons of my warfare are not carnal, they are not fleshly, but they are mighty in God and when I get there he is telling them, I’m going to cast down these arguments and the vain imaginations going on in the church. He is not talking about his own thoughts. He is talking about what was going on in the church. And he is saying when I get there I am going to deal with all this mess.
