Genesis 26:12-13 says “Then Isaac sowed in that land, and reaped in the same year a hundredfold; and the Lord blessed him. The man began to prosper and continued prospering until he became very prosperous. If you will read the story you will find out there was a famine going on and Isaac sowed in the midst of a famine. I found out a long time ago in the ministry, that when the world is in a famine most of the church world is in a famine. If I am depending on that tithe to feed me, I may be in big trouble. So I am a firm believer in multiple streams of income, because I believe there could be famine in a lot of different areas.
Here’s an example: I learned a long time ago that real estate has produced more millionaires than any industry in the world. So, I started buying real estate and God told me to do 2 things that other people investing in real estate did not do. So when the crisis hit my property just kept on keeping on and several other people I knew in the real estate business they were out. You see the Bible says that it rains on the unjust and the just alike and you can prosper in an area just like the world, but you need the wisdom of God in the midst of that because things can go wrong in the world.
When I first got started in the ministry I depended on a lawnmower and a weed eater. I didn’t like it, but I worked and I ate. But I learned to grow in knowledge and I learned how to prosper in things, because God wants me to preach the gospel not just hear at church but out there in the world. Now don’t come to me for a loan or money, because I won’t give it to you, I really won’t. I’ll do what God tells me to and if God tells me to then I will do it. But if God doesn’t tell me to and a person comes to me and says Pastor will you loan me a $100.00, I’m probably going to tell them to get a lawnmower and a weed eater. The reason is, more than likely if you give someone $100.00 you are not really helping them, because they’ve got some things that they need to change in their life.
I’ve learned different ways of making a living. I am a commodity trader, I can make a living day trading if I want. I could make a good living sitting at my computer day trading. I do not want to be a day trader, I am what they call a positional trader. A day trader sits there all day long staring at the computer and clicking that mouse and that’s not for me. I don’t want to do that because I have other things that I want to do. But if everything all of a sudden broke loose and the world collapsed, the government collapsed and the U.S. economy collapsed one thing will still exist, people will still have to eat. If people eat then commodities can make money.
I have a plan, I am going to prosper and I am going to preach the covenant and leave an inheritance to my children and my children’s children. When I go, I plan on leaving something beside well he was here. We ought to be prosperous, just like Abraham. God wants His Children prosperous and all of us have opportunities out there to prosper, but it’s not going to happen just because you are a child of God, there are some things that you have to do.
