In Genesis 17:6-11 God is talking to Abraham and it says “I will make you exceedingly (or to an extreme) fruitful and I will make nations of you, and kings shall come from you. And I will establish My covenant between Me an you and your descendants after you in their generations, for an everlasting covenant to be God to you and to your descendants after you. Also I give to you and your descendants after you the land in which you are a stranger, all the land of Canaan, as an everlasting possession and I will be their God. And God said to Abraham; As for you, you shall keep My covenant, you and your descendants after you throughout their generations. This is My covenant which you shall keep, between Me and you and your descendants after you; Every male child among you shall be circumcised in the flesh of your foreskins, and it shall be sign a of the covenant between Me and you.”
Abraham was a very rich man and he said, that He got rich because of God and that God did it. Many people say well the Bible says money is the root of all evil. No, the Bible says the love of money is the root of all evil. Money is not good or evil it’s just a piece of paper, it’s neutral. It’s what we do with it that makes it good or evil. I can take the same dollar that a drug addict uses to get high on and I can use it to win someone to Jesus. So my dollar became good while his dollar became evil, same dollar.
Eventually all of Abraham’s descendants became slaves in Egypt. Then God brought them out of Egypt and there was not one feeble person among them and they came out with all of the gold, silver, and all of the wealth of Egypt. Then God told them in Deuteronomy, Remember the Lord your God for He gives you the power to get wealth so that He may establish His Covenant. Folks, God doesn’t want you broke, poverty is a curse. If you can’t supply food, clothing, and shelter for your children, that is a curse. God’s plan is that you prosper so that you can establish God’s covenant.
I have literally seen people in winter time walking around with no coat on, because they were so poor that they couldn’t afford one. But guess what? I stopped, I went to the store, I bought them a coat and then I talked to them about the Covenant. Many of you fill up your gas tank and then moan and groan about it. You are liable to find me at the gas station filling up my tank, then telling the person next to me let me fill your tank up. Then I will talk to them about the Covenant. There have been times when I have bought meals for people that walked in and then I would sit down and tell them about the Covenant. God wants you to have the wealth so you can establish the Covenant, not just so that you can live good and God does want you to live good too though. He doesn’t want you to have to be broke, hungry and worrying about how you are going to make it from payday to payday.
I believe God wants me to share this with you because there is a movement in this world today where the gap between the haves and the have nots is getting bigger and bigger. I believe God would rather His people be on the side of the haves so we can minister to the have nots, so that the have nots can find Jesus. That’s why God gave us the power to get wealth so that He may establish His Covenant.
